It\u2019s recently been discovered that there\u2019s a security vulnerability that\u2019s affected thousands of websites over the last 2 years. What\u2019s been labelled the \u201cHeartbleed Bug<\/a>\u201d, allows hackers who know about the glitch to secretly extract sensitive consumer information such as passwords and even credit card details.<\/p>\n

Heartbleed affects OpenSSL, which is an open source encryption technology used in 66% of web servers. There is no way of knowing whether or not your data has been accessed so it\u2019s important that everyone changes their passwords for the affected sites.<\/p>\n

Some of the big sites that were affected include Facebook, Pinterest, Google (Gmail), Yahoo and even Amazon. Mashable<\/a> provides a good, comprehensive list of the major sites that have been affected.<\/p>\n

So What Now?<\/h3>\n

If you\u2019re hosted with Ilisys through e-CBD you don\u2019t need to worry. Ilisys jumped on the OpenSSL issue as soon as news broke and have patched the problem with no customer services being impacted in the process.<\/p>\n

Qualis SSL Labs has a tool you can use to test your domain name<\/a> for server problems.<\/p>\n

We recommend you change all your personal passwords, starting with those in Mashable\u2019s list of compromised sites. It\u2019s best to avoid using the same password across all your accounts, or at least have your financial account passwords different to those for social media.<\/p>\n

How to change your passwords\u2026<\/h3>\n

Google<\/a>: click on the profile icon in the top right of your Gmail page, then click on \u201caccount\u201d. Go to the security tab in the top navigation and you should see the option to \u201cChange password\u201d. It\u2019s a good idea to use Google\u2019s 2-Step Verification listed below the password change option, as this adds another level of security.<\/p>\n

Facebook<\/a>: Go to the down arrow in your top navigation and click on settings. Go to Password and click on \u201cedit\u201d.<\/p>\n

Instagram<\/a>: You\u2019ll need to do this on your phone. Go to your profile page and tap on \u201cEdit Your Profile\u201d. From here you\u2019ll see the option to \u201cChange Password\u201d.<\/p>\n

Pinterest<\/a>: Once you\u2019re logged in, go to \u201csettings\u201d and click on the \u201cChange Password\u201d option.<\/p>\n
