The curse is obvious, but the blessing comes from having people talk about your brand and thus, increasing its visibility.<\/p>\n<p>Harnessing that extra visibility and turning it into something positive is the end goal of reputation management.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Finding Negative Reviews in Search Engines<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">There aren&#8217;t many businesses more polarizing than auto dealers; so let&#8217;s look at a bit of what a simple Google search for &#8220;auto dealers&#8221; in my hometown of Nashville, TN looks like:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1693\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1693\" style=\"width: 351px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1693\" title=\"nashville auto dealers serp\" src=\"https:\/\/www.e-cbd.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/nashville-auto-dealers-serp.png\" alt=\"nashville auto dealers serp\" width=\"351\" height=\"491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.e-cbd.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/nashville-auto-dealers-serp.png 351w, https:\/\/www.e-cbd.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/nashville-auto-dealers-serp-214x300.png 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1693\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ouch, that last one would definitely make me think twice about going there for my next car.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Two searches to find the most visible negative sentiment are &#8220;i hate [brand\/product]&#8221; &amp; &#8220;[brand\/product] sucks&#8221;. Let&#8217;s look at what people who hate AT&amp;T have to say:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1699\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1699\" style=\"width: 519px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1699\" title=\"i hate att serp\" src=\"https:\/\/www.e-cbd.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/i-hate-att-serp.png\" alt=\"i hate at&amp;t serp\" width=\"519\" height=\"559\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.e-cbd.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/i-hate-att-serp.png 519w, https:\/\/www.e-cbd.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/i-hate-att-serp-278x300.png 278w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 519px) 100vw, 519px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1699\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Notice that Google is even displaying the complaints on AT&amp;T\u2019s own website<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>People are so passionate that they&#8217;ve made Facebook pages, videos, and even websites devoted to venting their frustration.<\/p>\n<h2>This Sounds Like a Lot of Work, Can I Live Without Reputation Management?<\/h2>\n<p>Yes, but I wouldn&#8217;t recommend it.<\/p>\n<p>According to a recent Nielsen study:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;76 percent of US internet consumers said they most trusted recommendations from personal acquaintances, while 49 percent trusted consumer opinions posted online.&#8221;<br><cite>&#8211; Nielsen: State of the Media | Advertising Spend and Effectiveness (06\/2011)<\/cite><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Nearly half of your potential customers trust the opinions of total strangers; they may not even give you a chance if the first thing they see is a bad review.
