Start writing – Quality content is the cream of the crop; the number 1 thing you need to do to ensure ranking success. By quality content we mean content that is unique, useful and better than the rest. Give people a reason to want to visit your site and share your valuable insights. Have a go at some FAQs or a blog post series.
Quality over quantity – Start thinking about ways to make your content more valuable to users. Would images help explain it? How about a diagram? Or a calculator? Don’t just stick to boring text-only content, but rich, interactive content too. Set yourself apart from your competitors. It’s easier than you think.
Get out there – help your link building strategy by building relationships with other businesses, groups and organisations in the offline world. Sponsor a local sports team, sign up a work team at a local community event or join relevant industry groups or meet-ups – most of the time it’ll result in a mention on their websites or even better, a link back to your website.
Consistency – this is a quick win and sure-fire to improve your local rankings. Has your business changed address or phone number at any point in time? Then you might have some profiles out there with incorrect information. Claim and update them now! Add images, include a description and link back to your website. Make sure your business name is consistent across these listings too. Having uniform NAP (Name, Address & Phone) information can provide a considerable ranking boost.
Look to the future – the nature of search is changing at an incredibly fast pace. Technological advances and the need for information quickly and at the touch of a button is growing. Keeping ‘user experience’ at the forefront of anything you do online will help ensure your business (and website) is relatively future-proof and ahead of your competitors. Consider the website experience on a mobile device. Consider the intent of the visitor – are they just at the research stage or wanting to make contact? How can you better serve their needs? Move away from caring so much about keywords, and instead care about topic areas. Stop doing things on your website just for search engines and start thinking about how you can be better for your visitors.
